Last week, an event that was very likely to create additional racial tensions, regardless of the decision or direction of the jury, took a surprisingly redemptive turn.
This turn was lead by Brandt Jean, in his public forgiveness of the police officer who murdered his brother. This courageous teenager diffused most of the tension in our state through a simple message of forgiveness and grace.
However, there are a few in our state who are still seeking to fuel the animosity. While Democrats and Republicans alike came together around Brandt’s message, The Washington Post and the Texas Tribune teamed up to criticize the message of forgiveness, and fuel more racial tension. It was incredibly disappointing to see.
